My FAVORITE holiday is 4th of July. Not just because of what it means for this country and us as individuals but because of a tradition that started just a few years ago. For the past few years, my cousin and his wife host all our family, and most of Campbellsville out on their farm for food, fun, and fireworks.
Last year, I was all of 9 months pregnant and we thought the high 80* heat was sheer punishment and I was honestly surprised that I walked away from the cookout without going into labor. But this year, our family looked very different and our little addition thoroughly enjoyed her first July 4th celebration.
This year, we were battling 100* temperatures, so we had my aunt buy and set up a little kiddie pool for the youngins to cool off in. Catie spent most of her time hanging out in the pool or staring at all the other kids.
One thing I was concerned with was the loud fireworks. My mother had thought ahead and brought ear plugs for Catie Grace's ears. When the first firework exploded, it startled Catie but once she identified the source of the noise, she leaned back against my chest and watched the show. There were several times where I honestly thought she had fallen asleep because of how still she got, but if there was a slight pause in the display of fireworks, then she would crank her head around trying to find where they went. She would also lean back when there was a particularly high explosion and crane her neck back to be sure to take it all in.
We also were able to share this holiday with Jacob and Lisha as well. They got a good taste of our Campbellsville roots :)
